Buying or selling a business that uses Gift Up?

If you are buying, or selling, a business that uses Gift Up there are a few steps that should be taken prior to sale, and after to ensure continued, smooth running.

For the seller of the business

When you sell a business that uses Gift Up, you should perform the following actions before you hand over the keys to your new business:

  1. Reach out to Gift Up support, ideally a few days before you hand over your business, so we can specify the date of your final invoice. This ensures that you pay the bill for your gift card sales up to the date of your business' sale.
  2. Once your final invoice is settled, you can safely remove your stored invoice payment details
  3. Invite the new business owner to your Gift Up account as a full dashboard admin
  4. Transfer ownership of the Gift Up account to the new owner
  5. Remove your existing payment gateway from Gift Up. This ensures that future gift card sales do not get paid to your bank account.
  6. Remove any users that should not have access to the Gift Up account
  7. Reach out to Gift Up support to ask us to remove you from the Gift Up account, or ask the new owner to perform this step.

For the buyer of a business that uses Gift Up

  1. Ensure that you have access to Gift Up by asking the previous owner for your login credentials. Alternatively, you may have an invitation email in your inbox already.
  2. Ensure that the list of users who have access is correct, and up to date, with no previous staff members having unnecessary access
  3. Ensure that you are the account owner. You can tell if you are the account owner by heading to the users list, as one user will have the badge: "Owner & admin".
  4. Ensure that the payment gateway for incoming payments is owned by you and, importantly, ensure that the payout bank account is correct in your nominated payment gateway
  5. If you plan to continue to sell gift cards through Gift Up, ensure that we have a payment method on file to settle future invoices for our fees.
  6. If you do not plan to continue selling gift cards through Gift Up, you should pause your Gift Up checkout from taking new orders.
